CAC boss must be provided within 24hours -Senate. The Senate Committee on Finance has directed the Inspector General of Police to summon the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Ishaq Magaji, within 24 hours.

Sani Musa, the Senate Committee Chairman, was enraged when the Registrar General turned down the committee’s invitation for the third time on Wednesday.

He was due to testify to defend the commission’s 2024 budget, after the committee discovered some financial irregularities in the materials supplied.

Despite having confirmed three letters of invitation from the Clerk of the Senate Committee on Finance, the commission’s four top officials were unable to explain the RG’s absence from the panel.

Prior to Musa’s statement, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (Anambra South) asked for harsh steps against the RG as a deterrent to others.

Senator Bello Mandiya of Katsina South voiced outrage at Magaji’s dismissal of the committee, questioning what he was hiding that worried him.

“I think it’s disrespectful by the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission to shun this Committee for the third time,” Mandiya remarked.

“Even the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appears before us to present a budget.

“Who is Registrar General of CAC that cannot appear before us?”

Senator Abdul Ningi, in response, asked CAC personnel not to return without Magaji, encouraging them to let the CAC face the music and explain how the money was used in the agency.

“Mr Chairman, it is critical to understand where they are coming from because this is not the first time they are appearing before the committee,” Ningi added.

“There was a discussion with you about the Corporate Affairs Commission’s revenue generation and expenditure, and we said the Registrar General should be here.”

“Yet you’re here, and you’ve probably told him you’re capable of doing the job.” Even if you are capable, this position is not for you. Don’t take the intended bullet.

Musa stated in his ruling after hearing from committee members, “With all humility, the Corporate Affairs Registrar General has disregarded this committee.”
