Tinubu urges Gavi CEO: Nigerian manufacturers ready for vaccine production.

President Bola Tinubu has urged Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to collaborate with Nigerian vaccine manufacturers to ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines. He emphasized the capability and readiness of Nigerian manufacturers to produce vaccines during a meeting with Gavi’s CEO, Dr. Sania Nishtar.
Tinubu highlighted the necessity of local vaccine production, especially in the face of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious diseases. He expressed Nigeria’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations for routine vaccines and directed relevant ministers to release necessary funds for vaccine procurement.
Acknowledging Gavi’s commitment to humanity, Tinubu emphasized the importance of protecting children from preventable diseases and welcomed collaboration with the organization. He commended Dr. Nishtar’s visit to Nigeria and pledged to prioritize investments in the health sector.
Dr. Nishtar, in her remarks, congratulated Nigeria on its innovative health-sector initiatives and expressed readiness to collaborate further. She announced Gavi’s commitment to providing financial support to Nigeria and addressing vaccine inequity in Africa through initiatives like the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator.
The Gavi CEO highlighted Nigeria’s importance in Gavi’s success and informed Tinubu about upcoming policy decisions that would impact Nigeria’s support from the organization. Her visit aimed to engage with Nigeria’s health managers for future collaborations.
