The late American hip-hop icon, Tupac Shakur, is set to receive a posthumous honor in California, United States, as a street in Oakland will be renamed in his memory.
According to a report by the Daily Mail on Thursday, the city council’s decision was made subsequent to a unanimous vote on Tuesday.
NBC has obtained legislation indicating that a section of MacArthur Boulevard situated near Lake Merritt, which was once the residence of Shakur, will retain its current name while being bestowed with the supplementary honorary title of Tupac Shakur Way.
Tupac has been selected for his noteworthy contributions to the city of Oakland and his advocacy for the utilization of art and culture as a driving force for societal transformation.
The Foundation under his purview will assume responsibility for the creation and installation of commemorative plaques and signage designating the updated costs associated with the event.
In 1996, Tupac Shakur passed away at the young age of 25 as a result of a drive-by shooting.
