Bola Tinubu, the President elect of Nigeria

The SGF has released a timetable for the upcoming transition, which includes the awarding of GCFR to Tinubu on May 25th.

Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, is set to receive the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the 25th of May, in anticipation of his upcoming inauguration on the 29th of May.

On the same day, Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima is set to receive the esteemed Grand Commander of Order of the Niger (GCON) honor.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the schedule of activities for the 2023 Presidential Inauguration has been released and it includes the following information.

The Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council, Mr. Mustapha, unveiled the schedule during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

In Nigeria, it is customary for the departing president to bestow the GCFR distinction upon the incoming president.

In 2010, the Council of State was compelled to bestow the GCFR title upon Goodluck Jonathan, owing to the unique circumstances surrounding his ascension to power. Following the demise of Umar Yar’Adua, Mr. Jonathan became the President of Nigeria.

According to Mr. Mustapha’s statement, the proceedings are set to kick off with a formal dinner to pay tribute to the departing President Muhammadu Buhari on the 23rd of May.
