Dates: 28 May-11 June Venue: Roland Garros, Paris

In an impressive performance, former US Open champion Sloane Stephens demonstrated why she is regarded as one of the most formidable unseeded players at the French Open.

She eliminated Karolina Pliskova from the tournament, showcasing her skill and ability on the court.

Stephens’ victory highlights her potential to challenge and defeat higher-ranked opponents in the competition.

Sloane Stephens, the American player, achieved a remarkable victory in the first round of the French Open. She defeated the Czech 16th seed and two-time Grand Slam finalist with a convincing score of 6-0, 6-4.

Despite not being initially seeded, Stephens’ strong performance has propelled her ranking to 30th, which would have been sufficient for seeding.

Another American player, Madison Keys, also advanced in the tournament. Keys, who was the runner-up in the 2017 US Open (where she lost to Stephens), secured a hard-fought victory with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 against Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi.

Additionally, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the 2021 French Open runner-up from Russia, won her match against Czech teenager Linda Fruhvirtova with a comfortable score of 6-2, 6-2.

Upcoming matches on Monday include French fifth seed Carolina Garcia facing China’s Wang Xiyu, as well as the appearances of two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina.
