Fire accident at hotel in Onitsha. The Sopurum Hotel, located in the Nkwelle neighborhood of Onitsha, Anambra State, has been ravaged by fire, destroying a large portion of the edifice.

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined, but it was reported that it began at 4:30 a.m. on Monday.

Men from Delta and Anambra states’ fire services were already on the ground combating the issue at the time of reporting this report.

Martins Agbili, the Anambra State Chief, could not be reached immediately for comment because calls and text messages to his phone number were not returned.

However, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, verified the occurrence and stated that the situation is under control.

“The situation has been stabilized. The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, and when we received word, our workers rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent vandalism.

“There has been no loss of life, and the firemen are on the ground controlling the situation and managing the fire,” Ikenga continued.
