Joe Biden wrote “For more than 70 years, Tony Bennett didn’t just sing the classics – he himself was an American classic.

There’s no doubt about it – Tony Bennett’s life was legendary. And his contributions to the arts in America will endure.

Jill and I have been fans of Tony’s music for a long time – not only because of his beautiful voice, but also the joy that he brought to everything he did. We send our deepest condolences to his family and fans around the world.”

This came few hours after the former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama described Tony as “an iconic songwriter and entertainer”.

According to Obama, “Tony Bennett was an iconic songwriter and entertainer who charmed generations of fans. He was also a good man—Michelle and I will always be honored that he performed at my inauguration. We’re thinking of his wife Susan, his kids, and everyone who is missing him today.”

Tony Bennett, an American vocalist, was widely recognised for his singing talent. Bennett accumulated numerous honours, which encompassed 20 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards.

He received the prestigious titles of NEA Jazz Master and Kennedy Centre Honoree, and also established the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens, New York. With a global record sales exceeding 50 million units and the prestigious accolade of a star on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame, his achievements are truly remarkable.

Bennett passed away at his residence in New York City on July 21, 2023, a mere fortnight before his 97th birthday, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for a span of seven years. The announcement was made by his publicist.
