Lagos warns traders of traffic congestion and market sanitation.

The Lagos State Government has urged traders in the Ikeja Business Area to follow key traffic and ecological guidelines.

Mrs Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the Central Business District, made the call during a meeting with the leadership of the Computer Village Market Association.

Olumegbo-Lawal condemned the illegal conversion of highways into markets and the exchange of parking spaces to traders, claiming that this frequently hinders vehicular mobility.

On Saturday, CBD’s Deputy Director, Olaoye Olusegun, issued a statement to that effect.

“We are aware that you are our progress partner and a major stakeholder in finding a long-term solution to the traffic issues within the Ikeja Business Area,” the statement said in part. We recognize that you have influence over your members at the local level, and I urge you to reach out to them and caution them to ensure that the traffic situation along this axis improves.”

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, reopened the Alayabiagba Market in Boundary Ajegunle on Saturday after complying with all of the state’s sanitary requirements.
Wahab went on to say that the state government would not desist in its efforts to maintain the long-term viability of the sanitary legislation governing market establishment.
