General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma
Danjuma clocks 86, Buhari congratulates him. Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari called to commemorate retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma’s 86th birthday, specifically to highlight and express gratitude for his accomplished military career and service to the country.
“T.Y. as Chief of Army Staff built an army that was ready to execute combat operations day and night, at home and abroad,” Buhari was quoted as saying in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
“And at all times exhibited the soldierly spirit of valor and unwavering courage.” He proudly served in the army.”
Danjuma joined in the Nigerian Military Training College in 1958 and went on to have a long and illustrious career, reaching to the rank of General as Chief of Army Staff from 1975 to 1979, witnessing battle and leading troops during the country’s civil war.
Danjuma served as Minister of Defence under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration from 1999 to 2003 after retiring.
President Buhari, who is now 86 years old, stated, “I wished him many more years of service to humanity as he builds on his legacy of contribution to public causes and the welfare of the underprivileged.”
