AAUA appoints the first professor of Biochemistry

AAUA appoints the first professor of Biochemistry. The authorities of Adekunle Ajasin University(AAUA), Akungba Akoko, had appointed the first Professor in the Department of Biochemistry of the highly reputed Ivory Tower. He is Prof Augustine Olusegun Olusola.

Prof Olusola, a Great Grandson of the late Warrior, Amuledeju Ologundudu specializes in Clinical Toxicology, Medical & Environmental Biochemistry.

Prof Olusola joined the services of the University on January 12, 2001 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Biochemistry. He rose through the ranks until October 01, 2020, when he became Professor. He holds B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc. and Ph.D (Biochemical Toxicology) from the prestigious University of Benin, Benin City.

He had served the Department and the University in several capacities. He was Level Adviser between 2001-date, SIWES Coordinator between 2002 – 2015, the Examination Officer between 2006-2008 and 2012-Feb. 2017, Project Coordinator between 2004-2015. He is the Head of the Faculty of Science Research Group in Toxicology and was a member of several Committees in the University, including the Committee on establishment of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (2013); Business Committee of Senate, VC’s Examination Monitoring Committee, Library Development Committee and Faculty of Agric Students’ Examination Misconduct Investigation Committee (2017-2021).

He was appointed the Coordinator of Biochemistry Department in 2012. Also, he was the Ag Head of Department between May 2017- July 31, 2019 and Ag Director, Centre for Distance Learning from February 2019 to July 31, 2020 and Ag Head of the Department, August 2020 – July 31, 2021. He is currently the Ag Director, Centre for Research and Development.

He was Visiting Senior Lecturer to Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (2012-2014), Visiting Reader to FUOYE (2019-2021), Visiting Professor to Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun State (2019), Visiting Professor to Well Spring University, Benin City (2021), Visiting Professor to Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi State (2022). He had also served as External Examiner to several higher Institutions, including LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, both undergraduate and graduate study programmes (2017-date), RUGIPOL, Owo (2018-2019), Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (2023).

Prof Olusola has been very active in teaching and research. He had published over 70 articles in both local and foreign peer-reviewed journals. He had also presented several award-winning scientific papers at both local and international conferences.
His current research focuses on evaluating plants for antioxidant, antidiabetic and antimalarial potencies as well as their toxicity concerns. He has hitherto supervised over 500 undergraduate projects and had successfully supervised 11 MSc and 7 PhD Students, within the past 8 years when the Department started postgraduate programmes. Two PhD Students under his supervision are now preparing for the final defense of their theses.

Prof Olusola is a Fellow, Strategic Institute for Natural Resources and Human Development (FRHD), Abuja. Fellow, Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria (FIIA), Abuja. He is a Member, Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB); Member, Nigerian Society of Experimental Biology (NISEB); Member, International Research and Development Network; Member, American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB); Member, American Association for Science and Technology (AASCIT); Member, Chartered Institute of Environmental and Public Health Management of Nigeria.

Professor Olusola is a Senior Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God and a Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress. He is happily married with godly children
