ASUU and SSANU, IPPIS calls for increased government involvement in universities.

The removal of federal tertiary institution personnel from IPPIS has been praised by Dr. Biodun Olaniran, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and the Federal Government.

In a Friday interview with Newsmen in Ibadan, Olaniran offered the praise.

NAN adds that on Wednesday, the federal government granted an exemption to many tertiary institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and others, from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

President Bola Tinubu deserves praise for listening to ASUU’s demand that university employees not be included in the platform for salary payments, says the ASUU chairman.

Nonetheless, he emphasized the importance of the government addressing other problems affecting the country’s educational institutions.

Olaniran stated that the nation’s colleges still needed additional support, particularly from the bargaining team headed by Nimi Briggs.

In addition, Mr. Charles Adebimpe, secretary of the University of Ibadan chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), stated that the union had requested additional explanations from the government over the incident.

Even though he praised the federal government, Adebimpe claimed that things would change if universities were removed from IPPIS.

He explained that U3PS, or the University Peculiar Personnel Payment System, had been suggested by the union to the government as an alternative to IPPIS.

According to Adebimpe, SSANU is amenable to more talks over the payment mechanism that would benefit many employees at universities.
