Nigerians migrating to Uk should be responsible-Mayor. Michael Situ, the Nigerian-British Mayor of Southwark in London, has advised Nigerians visiting the UK, particularly youths and students, to familiarize themselves with the country’s regulations before traveling.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission made the announcement on Sunday through the Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Gabriel Odu.
According to the release, Mayor Situ mentioned this during an exclusive interview with NIDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa during a courtesy call to his office in Southwark, London.
“Mayor Situ believes that if they are properly briefed, they will avoid getting into trouble such as alleged sexual assaults, and related issues, rules, cultures, and traditions of their new environment (UK),” it said.
“He noted that what may appear as nothing to them in their culture could be most times be quite grievous in their new environment.”
According to the statement, Dabiri-Erewa suggested that regular briefings and interactions be held for those newly arriving in the UK, particularly students, to help them stay out of trouble and adjust appropriately to their new society, which is different from where they are coming from.
She advised individuals who visit the UK on a regular basis to be respectful of the host country’s rules.
