Oshoala meets Tinubu

Oshoala meets Tinubu. President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu hosted Super Falcons striker and 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, in Lagos.

This is according to a statement published on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Tinubu and the First Lady hailed the Barcelona Femeni star on her sixth African female footballer of the year award.

The hosts also praised Oshoala for her achievements in the sport, praising her important contributions to women’s football across the continent.

“Nigerian women will always have a pride of place in the world,” says the statement. What our women have accomplished in football, our women are accomplishing in many fields of endeavor around the world—rising to the top and displaying the finest of the Nigerian character of excellence, persistence, resourcefulness, and perseverance.”

Recognizing the achievements of star sprinter Tobi Amusan, as well as the presence of multiple Nigerian women on Forbes’ ‘2023 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women,’ List, including media mogul, Mo Abudu, and World Trade Organization Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the President and First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation’s continued support for her and other Nigerian women striving for excellence in their chosen paths.

Oshoala praised Tinubu and the First Lady for “giving me the opportunity to present the award to them” following the enthusiastic greeting. We had a couple of concerns at the last World Cup, and they stepped in and have been incredibly supportive of the girls even after the competition.”
