Arsenal Loses To Fulham . Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes were dealt another blow on Sunday as they were defeated 2-1 at Fulham.
The Gunners’ high chances of winning the Premier League for the first time in 20 years have been dashed by two devastating defeats in four days.
Mikel Arteta was seeking for a comeback after his team lost 2-0 at home to West Ham on Thursday, and the visitors got off to a good start at Craven Cottage.
After Bernd Leno parried Gabriel Martinelli’s initial shot, Bukayo Saka pounced to score his first goal in six games.
However, Arsenal failed to capitalize on their early lead, as Fulham came back to end a three-game losing streak in the Premier League without scoring a goal.
Raul Jimenez was missed during his three-game suspension for a red card at Newcastle, and his fourth goal in as many games sparked Fulham’s comeback.
Former Arsenal winger Willian released Tom Cairney down the left, and his dangerous low cross was swept home at the back post by Jimenez.
Martinelli came within inches of restoring Arsenal’s advantage before the break.
But it was Fulham who dominated the second half, and they were rewarded just before the hour mark.
Arsenal failed to clear a corner, allowing Bobby De Cordova-Reid to smash in from close range.
Only a brilliant stop from David Raya to deny Cairney and the crossbar from Andreas Pereira’s free-kick kept Arsenal from further punishment in west London.
However, they may have done enough harm to their title hopes in the last week.
Arsenal is still in fourth place, two points behind champions Liverpool and level on 40 points with Manchester City, despite having played one more game.
