Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have voiced apprehension over the escalating cost of living in Nigeria, likening the country’s trajectory to that of Venezuela under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The governors highlighted challenges such as economic instability, increasing abduction cases, and rising food prices, which have burdened the populace.

During a meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the PDP governors advocated for urgent measures to address the economic and security challenges facing the nation. They reiterated their longstanding call for the establishment of state police and urged the federal government to take decisive actions to stabilize the value of the naira.

Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, emphasized the need for constructive criticism of government policies while avoiding divisive rhetoric. He expressed concern over the free fall of the naira and the surging cost of living, cautioning against complacency in addressing these pressing issues.

The governors pledged to collaborate with the APC-led federal government to alleviate the plight of Nigerians, particularly at the grassroots level. While acknowledging shared responsibilities between the federal and state governments, they underscored the primary role of the federal government in shaping monetary and economic policies.

In attendance were governors from various states including Rivers, Oyo, Adamawa, Plateau, Zamfara, Taraba, Edo, as well as deputy governors from Enugu and Delta States.
