Emir of Kano urges traders to lower food prices ahead of Ramadan
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, has called on traders to reduce the prices of food items and other commodities to ease the burden on the masses during the upcoming Ramadan period.
Speaking on Sunday in Zaria during the launch of a book titled “Dauloli a Kasar Hausa,” which translates to ‘Kingdoms in Hausaland,’ authored by Prof. Sa’idu-Mohammed Gusau, the royal leader emphasized the importance of affordability during the holy month.
Ado-Bayero also urged affluent individuals to extend assistance to the less privileged members of society throughout Ramadan. He prayed for the well-being of the people and for their prayers and sacrifices to be accepted during this sacred time.
The emir commended the book’s publisher for shedding light on the historical significance of the Hausa kingdoms in Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Zazzau, among others. He highlighted the book’s detailed exploration of the administrative systems, trade practices, and cultural values of these kingdoms.
Prof. Ahmed Zaria of Kaduna State University, the book’s reviewer, lauded its comprehensive coverage of the Hausa kingdoms’ politics, administration, and societal norms. He emphasized the importance of the book as a valuable resource for students and researchers in linguistics and history.
While urging academics to maintain their dedication to research, Prof. Zaria expressed concern over some professors’ tendency to neglect research activities after attaining the highest academic rank.
The publisher, Prof. Gusau, explained that the book aims to consolidate the written history of the Hausa Kingdoms and promote unity among them and other Nigerian communities. He stressed the importance of inclusivity in historical research, noting that previous studies often focused on select kingdoms to the exclusion of others.
