Appeal Court overturns ruling against Abure and others.
In a recent development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned the judgment of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, which barred Julius Abure and two others from serving as national officers of their party.
The ruling stems from an ex parte application granted on April 5, 2023, by Hamza Muazu, the Presiding Judge of the FCT High Court, restraining Abure, Farouk Ibrahim, Clement Ojukwu, and Oluchi Opara from functioning as national officers of the LP.
Additionally, the high court dismissed Abure’s objection challenging his removal as the LP chairman. The lawsuit, filed by Martins Esikpali John and others, accused Abure and his associates of forging documents of the FCT High Court to unlawfully alter candidates in the previous elections.
In response, the defendants sought recourse from the appeal court.
In a lead judgment delivered on Wednesday, Justice Hamman Barka asserted that the high court had erred in assuming jurisdiction over the matter. Furthermore, he awarded N1 million in favor of the appellants.
Details on the matter will be provided later.
