JUST IN: Five-storey building collapses in Anambra, many feared trapped.
A yet-to-be-identified number of individuals are feared trapped after a five-storey building under construction collapsed at Basden Street, Fegge, in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The building, intended for commercial use upon completion, collapsed in the early hours of Sunday while some construction workers were on the top floor.
Rescue efforts are underway, with an excavator deployed to clear the rubble and assist in potential rescue operations.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time. However, one person has been rescued so far, according to a source near the site.
Details surrounding the incident are still unclear, as authorities, including the state police spokesman DSP Tochukwu Ikenga and the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Chinyere Nworah, have not yet responded to inquiries.
