Illicit drug factories: NDLEA busts illicit drug factories in Osun, Lagos.
In a recent development, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered two illicit drug factories in Osun and Lagos states, leading to the arrest of several individuals involved in drug trafficking.
According to Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media & Advocacy for the agency, the first discovery occurred when NDLEA officers intercepted a consignment of illicit drugs hidden in the engine compartment of an interstate commercial bus. The bus, marked VDY 187 XA, was stopped along the Gbongan – Ibadan road in Osun state. The seized drugs included 5.2kg of cannabis sativa and opioids, and the bus driver, Iorliam Sughnen Dominic, 35, was apprehended for further investigation.
In another operation, a 26-year-old lady identified as Obasanmi Esther Iyanu was arrested during a raid on her hideout in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state. The raid resulted in the confiscation of 16.5 litres of an illicit substance known as “skuchies,” along with molly and cannabis.
Meanwhile, in Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Aba Thomas in the Igbo Elerin area. From him, they seized 84 litres of skuchies, 1.1 litres of codeine syrup, 4kg of cannabis sativa, and 800 tablets of tramadol 225mg.
These operations are part of the agency’s nationwide efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse. NDLEA Commands across the country have been conducting raids and crackdowns on illicit drug activities, leading to multiple arrests and seizures of narcotics.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the efforts of the various Commands involved in these operations. He urged them to remain vigilant and intensify their efforts in reducing both drug supply and demand across the nation.
