Osun unveils plot to attack schools and farms

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has revealed his administration’s discovery of a plot by criminals to launch attacks on schools and farm settlements in rural communities across the state.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor expressed concern over the intention of the perpetrators to disrupt the implementation of his administration’s infrastructure plan and instigate fear among the populace.

Adeleke disclosed that a meeting of the state security council had been convened to avert any security breaches in the state, following intelligence reports indicating a deliberate mobilization of criminal elements to rural areas.

He emphasized the need to safeguard farming activities from disruptions caused by kidnappings and attacks on rural farm settlements. Additionally, schools were targeted to distract from the implementation of the safe school initiative and infrastructure development plans.

The governor issued preliminary directives to school authorities to enhance the safety of pupils and students, including clearing overgrown school environments and collaborating with Parents and Teachers Associations.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education and related agencies were tasked with reviewing safety measures in Osun schools in alignment with the Safe School Initiative.

Adeleke underscored the importance of immediate action to safeguard farming communities, particularly with the onset of the rainy season, directing the Food Security Committee to submit an interim report for prompt intervention.

Plans for major reforms of the Amotekun security force were also announced, aimed at enhancing efficiency and addressing internal rivalry and external interference.

Assuring the public of preemptive measures to secure schools and farming communities, Adeleke reiterated Osun’s commitment to peace and harmony, urging vigilance and cooperation with security agencies to thwart any attempts to disrupt stability in the state.

He concluded by urging residents to report any suspicious activities to the authorities, reaffirming his administration’s determination to safeguard the well-being of the people and maintain peace and order in Osun State.
