Funmi Waheed-Adekojo, a 40-year-old mechanical engineer, has boldly stepped into the political arena as the first Ondo aspirant to secure the N10m expression of interest form, marking her official entry into the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket. With aspirations of becoming the first female governor of the state, Waheed-Adekojo faces formidable competition from incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, business mogul and senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and APC chieftain Olusola Oke, among others.

Speaking to reporters after obtaining her form at the APC national secretariat, Waheed-Adekojo emphasized her independence from political influences, asserting that she is not a proxy for any political godfather or incumbent. She emphasized her commitment to grassroots empowerment, citing her efforts in training 15,000 women and youths in Akoko and Ondo State in skills acquisition and entrepreneurship. As a mechanical engineer and Fellow of the Society of Engineers, she declared her candidacy with confidence, stating, “I am in this race to win and become the first female governor of Ondo State.”

Waheed-Adekojo highlighted her broader mission to represent women globally, particularly in Africa, where she sees an urgent need for female leadership to address societal challenges. She underscored the significance of women stepping forward to fill gaps in governance and emphasized her dedication to serving the people rather than vested interests.
