The House of Representatives Committee on Disabilities has called upon the management of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) following allegations of discrimination against Mr. Adebola Daniel, a person living with a disability and the son of former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel. Chairman of the committee, Bashiru Ayinla, announced this during a briefing with House correspondents at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Adebola, who uses a wheelchair, reportedly faced denial of access at a KFC outlet within the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos last week, with the manager allegedly stating, “No wheelchair allowed.” Ayinla condemned this treatment, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and respect for individuals with disabilities, labeling it a violation of the Disability Act.

Ayinla reiterated the committee’s commitment to ensuring that those found guilty of breaching the Disability Act face the consequences as stipulated by law. He highlighted the need for rigorous enforcement of provisions such as access to public buildings and employment quotas to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities.

Furthermore, Ayinla emphasized the significance of state governments adopting and implementing the Disability Act, urging sustained public awareness to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities.

Addressing concerns about the committee’s motives, Ayinla dismissed suggestions that their actions were influenced by the involvement of a prominent individual’s son, emphasizing the committee’s dedication to advocating for equal rights and access for all individuals, regardless of their background.
