Security agencies to pursue individuals with fake certificates – Education minister
The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has announced that security agencies will actively pursue individuals found with fake degree certificates in Nigeria. Mamman made this declaration on Tuesday, emphasizing the government’s resolve to crack down on degree mills and fraudulent certification.
This statement follows the establishment of a committee tasked with investigating the activities of degree mills in the country, initiated in response to revelations about the illegal practices of some tertiary institutions in Benin Republic, as exposed by a Daily Nigerian report.
The investigative panel, set up by the Federal Ministry of Education, is expected to submit its findings soon. Mamman assured the public that once the report is received, individuals holding fake certificates will be apprehended and tracked down by security agencies.
The minister’s remarks were made during the first quarterly citizens’ engagement in Abuja, where the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tanko Sununu, highlighted the objectives of the engagement. Sununu emphasized the importance of creating awareness, promoting mutual understanding with stakeholders, and enhancing transparency and accountability in the education sector.
The engagement also aims to improve efficiency by identifying and addressing operational challenges within the government’s operations.
