Amidst allegations of anti-labour practices, the Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PTECSSAN) has announced an indefinite strike scheduled to commence from midnight on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

The union cited ongoing grievances against subcontractors, including Reime Group, All Streamenergy Solutions Limited, Uppercrest Limited, Tyllium Nigeria Limited, and Specific Tools and Techniques Limited, engaged in projects awarded by Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited.

According to PTECSSAN, the subcontractors have been accused of subjecting field engineers to deplorable working conditions akin to modern-day slavery, coupled with inadequate entitlements and a lack of security measures, especially during late-night field assignments.

Expressing deep concern over the situation, the union emphasized the need for immediate action to address the plight of workers who endure precarious conditions while striving to fulfill their duties.

The decision to initiate a strike underscores the determination of telecoms workers to demand fair treatment and respect for their rights in the workplace. PTECSSAN reiterated its commitment to advocating for improved working conditions and equitable treatment for all employees within the telecommunications sector.

As the strike takes effect, the union urges stakeholders to engage constructively to resolve the underlying issues and ensure a conducive working environment for all telecoms workers in Nigeria.
