Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called upon the National Judicial Council (NJC) to address the issue of judges misusing exparte orders. Speaking at the National Summit on Justice 2024 in Abuja, Akpabio emphasized the importance of integrating technology into Nigeria’s justice system to combat delays and backlogs. He highlighted the need for prompt and decisive punishment for judges found abusing their authority, particularly in political cases. Akpabio stressed the detrimental impact of delays on justice accessibility and underscored the role of technology in enhancing judicial processes. He pledged the National Assembly’s commitment to budgeting for judicial reforms, including the adoption of digital tools. Akpabio also called for reforms in key areas such as interlocutory appeals and obtaining the Attorney General’s consent before executing judgments. He proposed modifications to streamline processes and ensure prompt execution of judgments, fostering trust in the justice system and improving efficiency.
