House demands action against fuel hoarders amid scarcity
The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream and Midstream) has urged security agencies to crack down on hoarders of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, as fuel scarcity persists nationwide. Despite assurances of product availability, the committee has expressed concern over the disruptions in supply chains, leading to scarcity.
Addressing reporters in Abuja, co-chair of the committee, Ikenga Ugochinyere, emphasized the need to tackle hoarding and price manipulation by middlemen. The committee calls for collaboration between security forces and relevant stakeholders to address acts of economic sabotage and ensure a smooth distribution chain.
Acknowledging the temporary inconvenience faced by Nigerians, Ugochinyere assured that the challenges would be resolved within a few days. He attributed the scarcity to logistical issues, including transportation difficulties and disruptions in supply channels.
Echoing Ugochinyere’s sentiments, Henry Okojie, co-chair of the Committee on Petroleum (Midstream), urged patience from Nigerians, assuring that the fuel crisis would be resolved promptly.
