Tragic incident: Gunmen kill One, abduct Seven travelers on Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have perpetrated a heinous crime on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway, resulting in the death of one traveler and the abduction of seven others.
According to reliable sources, the armed assailants, numbering approximately seven and wielding AK-47 rifles, launched their attack around 6 pm on Friday, between Ilisan, Ceplast industry, and Iperu junction on the expressway.
A distressing audio clip from one of the victims, a driver en route to Lagos, recounted how the gunmen stopped their vehicles with gunfire, leading to the death of one person in a Lexus car. The survivors were then forcefully taken into the bush.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State police command, SP Omolola Odutola, stated that the police were unable to determine the exact number of persons abducted by the gunmen.
Odutola described the incident as a case of armed robbery, murder, and kidnapping, noting that the hoodlums fatally shot one traveler whose identity remains unknown.
In response to the security breach, the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has initiated urgent measures, directing tactical commanders and the Mobile Squadron to apprehend the perpetrators swiftly.
