The federal government has launched the “Young & Secure Project,” a pioneering initiative designed to build trust and strengthen cooperation between young Nigerians and the police force. The project was unveiled by Ministers of State for Police Affairs and Youth Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, respectively. It aims to empower the youth to actively participate in nation-building and ensure their safety and security.

The initiative seeks to enhance collaboration between the youth and police, contributing to national security. It emphasizes the significant role of Nigerian youth in the country’s security framework, empowering them to act as community watchguard.

Suleiman-Ibrahim described the project as a vital initiative to restore trust, strengthen collaboration, and renew hope between young Nigerians and the police force. She stated, “The Nigerian youths have expressed their expectations clearly. We assure them that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this administration is dedicated to ensuring the safety, security, and prosperity of every Nigerian citizens.

“We are committed to deep reforms within the Nigeria Police Force to develop a world-class, inclusive, intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-based police force that meets its constitutional responsibilities.

Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, noted that the country has faced significant challenges in bridging the gap between its youth and law enforcement agencies. He emphasized the need for innovative solutions to rebuild trust and understanding between these vital segments of society.

“The ‘Young & Secure’ initiative is a critical platform to address this issue and foster a new era of collaboration, respect, and mutual empowerment between our youth and law enforcement agencies,” he said.

The collaborative effort between the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Ministry of Youth Development reflects a collective determination to address the root causes of discord and mistrust. Olawande further explained that the program is about empowering the youth to actively participate in nation-building while equipping law enforcement officers with the tools and training to serve with integrity and professionalism.

The project includes three main components: a pact to enhance civic commitment from young Nigerians and government commitment to youth security needs; youth-focused engagement that integrates with youth culture; and a technology-driven platform for transparency, accountability, and prompt issue resolution.

Olawande called on all stakeholders to seize this opportunity for collaboration and dialogue, emphasizing that their commitment extends beyond mere speeches to concrete actions and policies aimed at empowering the youth to shape the country’s futures.
