Justice Nyesom-Wike Suzzette, wife of the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyseom Wike, has been recommended for promotion to the Court of Appeal. Suzzette, a former First Lady of Rivers State and currently a Justice at the Rivers State High Court, is among 21 others recommended for elevation.

Additionally, Ariwoola Oluwakemi Victoria, daughter-in-law to Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola, is on the list of 12 judges recommended for elevation to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Suzzette and Victoria are part of the 86 judges recommended by the Interview Committee on Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria, during the National Judicial Council’s (NJC) 105th plenary meeting held between May 15 and 16, 2024. This information was confirmed in a statement from the council.

“All recommended candidates are expected to be sworn in after the approval of the NJC recommendations by the President and their respective State Governors,” stated Soji Oye, the council’s Director of Information, in a statement dated May 16, 2024, and seen by PUNCH Online on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The NJC also resolved to issue warning letters to Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Justice G. B. Brikins-Okolosi of the Delta State High Court, and Justice Amina Shehu of the Yobe State High Court, after finding them guilty of various misconducts. Ekwo and Brikins-Okolosi were barred from elevation to a higher bench for two years and three years, respectively.
