Stabbing horror: Woman fights for life.
A 27-year-old South African woman, Khanyisile Mndayi, is in a coma and critical condition after being stabbed over 20 times by her boyfriend in front of their children on Sunday. The incident occurred at their home in Berea, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Gillian Mogale shared on Facebook that Mndayi, after arriving late from her shift at Tempo, was insulted, beaten, and then brutally stabbed by her boyfriend, Bongani, who goes by Luuk De Jong on Facebook. Mogale’s post read, “Mndayi came home late from her shift at Tempo. Upon her arrival home at Metropolitan flat in Berea, she was insulted, beaten, and ultimately stabbed multiple times right in front of her kids by her boyfriend, BONGANI. She is currently fighting for her life in hospital.”
Women For Change, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa, stated on Monday that the boyfriend fled after locking the injured Mndayi and her children inside. The organization’s statement detailed, “Khanyisile Vanessa Mndayi, 27, was stabbed more than twenty times, allegedly by her boyfriend, in front of their children on May 26, 2024. Khanyisile is currently in a coma, fighting for her life.
“It is alleged that the boyfriend stabbed Khanyisile multiple times in their home in Berea, Johannesburg. He then locked Khanyisile and the children, who witnessed the gruesome attack, in the house.”
The statement also revealed that the boyfriend was arrested when he returned, allegedly intending to inflict further harm. It added, “The boyfriend took his belongings, leaving the severely injured Khanyisile and the children behind. Neighbours alerted the police, and when the boyfriend came back to allegedly continue to stab Khanyisile, police were able to arrest him.
“We pray for Khanyisile’s healing and recovery and call for justice for her and her children.”
In related news, it was reported in April that a UK-based Nigerian man, Olubunmi Abodunde, fatally beat his wife, Taiwo, with their son’s skateboard. The couple, who had three children, had moved to the UK from Nigeria in 2022 and frequently argued over alleged affairs and financial issues.
