The Federal Ministry of Works has taken decisive measures to repair the vandalized railings and expansion joints on the Second Niger Bridge. Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, revealed that the vandalized sections were repaired on Sunday. This action comes in response to a video that circulated on social media, showing the extent of the vandalism.

Orji also mentioned that the Ministry is collaborating with the police and other security agencies to enhance security, prevent further vandalism, and protect the bridge’s superstructure from additional damage. The Minister of Works expressed deep shock over the development and emphasized the commitment to changing Nigeria’s road infrastructure narrative.

Tough and decisive measures are being adopted to curb further incidents of vandalism and theft of facilities on the Second Niger Bridge and other public infrastructure nationwide. The Ministry will not tolerate any vandalism on public infrastructure and has put security measures in place on the bridge to allow for a quick response to incidents of vandalism.

The Federal Ministry of Infrastructured all road users, residents, and authorities within the project area to help keep watch against persons who vandalize or attempt to vandalize the road infrastructure facilities. There are hotlines provided for reporting such incidents, and the Ministry has promised handsome rewards for those who provide useful information on the identity of perpetrators of vandalism.
