Police overpower bandits in Benue.
Police in Benue successfully neutralized two suspected bandits in the Katsina-Ala Local Government Area on Sunday. The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, stated on Monday that Operation Zenda officers raided the bandits’ hideout at Tse Uza, Mbatyula Council Ward.
Upon arrival, the bandits engaged the police in a gunfight but were outmatched by the police’s superior firepower. Two bandits were fatally wounded and later confirmed dead by medical personnel, while other suspects managed to escape. Recovered items from the camp included two pistols loaded with ammunition, three locally made short guns, thirteen motorcycles, camouflage uniforms, six walkie-talkies, a Toyota Corolla, and a tricycle.
The Command spokesperson highlighted that ongoing efforts to eliminate banditry in the Sankera axis have led to multiple arrests and recoveries of firearms. The Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, praised the officers’ bravery and urged residents to report any suspects with gunshot wounds.
The Sankera axis, encompassing Logo, Katsina-Ala, and Ukum local government areas, remains a hotspot for criminal activities.
