LASTMA compensates families with N21m
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has compensated the families of officers who sustained injuries or lost their lives in the line of duty with a total of N21 million. This compensation was distributed during the agency’s 24th-anniversary celebration held at its headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos State, on Monday.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized that this gesture recognizes the significant services provided by the beneficiaries. He extended gratitude on behalf of LASTMA’s staff to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering support.
“I want to especially salute our heroes and heroines who have lost their lives during service. Also, I want to extend appreciation to the management officers who are challenged medically one way or the other. We recognize you; we are with you,” Bakare-Oki said.
Bakare-Oki also highlighted the agency’s achievements and future plans, noting that LASTMA has provided 24 years of relentless service to Lagos. “Our duty as LASTMA is to make sure we give optimum services to Lagosians. We must at all times prioritize the interest of Lagosians because they deserve the best,” he added.
He also mentioned recent advancements, including the launch of a digital toll center and the inauguration of a dedicated call-free line, aimed at improving service delivery. “All these are part of the trajectories of repositioning the agency for better service delivery,” he said.
The Director of Welfare Matters at LASTMA, Morayo Ojeniyi, announced that the anniversary celebrations would include a week-long medical outreach in partnership with the Lagos State Medical Doctors Guild. “Throughout this week, we are going to have a medical outreach for all our staff members in conjunction with the Lagos State Medical Doctors Guild,” Ojeniyi stated.
Beneficiaries of the compensation expressed their gratitude, with one, Bashiru Bakare, appreciating LASTMA and the government for their support. Another beneficiary, who chose to remain anonymous, thanked the agency and the government, recounting an injury sustained in a car accident involving smugglers in August 2022.
