Governor approves pension and promotion boost.
The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has allocated N25bn for the payment of pensions and gratuities for all retired state workers. Additionally, he announced the promotion of civil servants who have been in the same position for an extended period.
Bago also introduced free rides on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for students, health workers, and security personnel, with discounted rates for civil servants.
In his speech marking his first year in office on May 29, Bago highlighted the inauguration of 200 CNG-powered buses and new security vehicles aimed at enhancing security.
Promising further benefits, the governor urged residents to stay committed to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, attributing their achievements to the president’s influence. “Exactly this time last year, we inaugurated this government. Today, we inaugurate more projects in line with the Federal Government’s vision to alleviate the common man’s suffering,” Bago stated.
“We are launching 200 CNG buses, 50 security vehicles, and transformers. These buses will offer free rides to students, health workers, and security forces, while civil servants will pay discounted fares. I have approved N25bn for pensions and gratuities and the promotion of long-stagnant civil servants, alongside renovations of the judiciary complex and state secretariat,” he added.
Reflecting on President Tinubu’s role, Bago remarked, “We need a father like him to push us to success. This is his doing.”
The governor also pledged to acquire more CNG buses, aiming to reach 1,000 in six months, and to purchase 1,000 electric vehicles. “We are leading in green energy, and we will plant 1.5 million trees this year,” he concluded.
