Soyinka celebrated for quintessential Leadership
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, joined millions globally in celebrating the 90th birthday of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. The NUJ lauded Soyinka as an extraordinary individual, a quintessential leader, and a literary giant whose contributions to Nigeria and the educational sector are immeasurable.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Wale Olanrewaju, and Secretary, Bunmi Adigun, the union highlighted Soyinka’s profound impact on students, scholars, and activists, noting that his influence will resonate for generations. The union emphasized Soyinka’s dedication to press freedom, human rights, and the advancement of knowledge.
The statement read, “As a Nobel Laureate, Professor Soyinka has brought honour to Nigeria. His commitment to excellence and truth has inspired many to strive for greatness. We salute his resilience in fighting for press freedom, advocating for human rights, and his dedication to justice and equality.”
Soyinka’s literary works, including plays, poems, essays, and novels, have shaped Nigeria’s educational curriculum and inspired critical thinking and intellectual curiosity. The NUJ concluded with a birthday message: “Here’s to many more years of wisdom and inspiration from this extraordinary individual! Happy 90th birthday, Professor Soyinka!”
