After 22 years in a coma due to injuries sustained in a Palestinian suicide bombing at a pizza restaurant in Jerusalem, a US-born Israeli woman has passed away.
It is indeed a tragic incident. A US-Israeli woman, who had been in a coma for 22 years, has sadly passed away. She sustained severe injuries in a Palestinian suicide bombing that took place at a pizza restaurant in Jerusalem.
The bombing was a horrifying act of violence that caused immense suffering and loss.
The woman’s prolonged coma and eventual death highlight the long-lasting impact of such tragic events on individuals and their families.
At the time of the attack at the Sbarro pizzeria, Chana Nachenberg was 31 years old. Tragically, the attack claimed the lives of 15 other individuals, including seven children and a pregnant woman.
Chana Nachenberg was the third U.S. national to lose her life due to the bombing that occurred in August 2001.
Currently, the United States is pursuing the extradition of a woman who was convicted by Israel for her involvement in the attack.
Ahlam Tamimi, a Jordanian citizen born in the occupied West Bank, was sentenced to 16 life terms by an Israeli court in 2003.
In 2011, she was released as part of a prisoner exchange agreement that secured the freedom of an Israeli soldier held captive by Palestinian Hamas militants in Gaza for over five years.
Tamimi significantly contributed to Izz al-Din Shuheil al-Masri’s ability to carry out the catastrophic strike. She moved to Jordan after being released, where she has been outspoken about how proud she is of having taken part in the horrible deed.
Tamimi is currently on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list as a result of her involvement and the threat she represents.
In connection with allegations that she planned to use a weapon of mass destruction against Americans, the US is actively requesting her extradition.
The Jordanian High Court, however, turned down an earlier extradition request from the United States.
The parents of Malki Roth, one of the two other Americans who tragically perished in the incident, have spent years pressing for intensified American attempts to get Ahlam Tamimi’s extradition.
Malki Roth, who was just 15 years old at the time of the attack, and her family have waged a vigorous campaign for justice for Tamimi’s responsibility for the heinous act to be recognized and punished.
In order to make sure Tamimi is held accountable for her conduct, they have asked the U.S. government for help.
Their diligent efforts serve as a reminder of how crucial it is to seek justice and keep those culpable for such atrocities accountable.
Ahlam Tamimi and Izz al-Din Shuheil al-Masri, both members of Hamas, carried out their attack on the Sbarro restaurant on August 9 at a busy intersection in the heart of West Jerusalem while it was crowded with patrons.
Tamimi, who chose the target, left the scene before Masri detonated the explosive device.
The devastating incident resulted in the loss of numerous lives, with 15 people killed and about 130 others sustaining injuries.
