Nnamdi Kanu and his lawyer
Nnamdi Kanu’s attorney urges Tinubu for independent medical care for IPOB leader. Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, has asked President Bola Tinubu to urge the SSS to let Mr. Kanu get medical treatment.
Ejimakor, via Twitter, appealed for urgent medical care for Kanu’s ear. Kanu is the leader of IPOB.
Dear President Tinubu, I urged you to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu recently. You haven’t.
“Today, I urge you to allow Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to seek independent medical care, specifically for the ear surgery he needs,” he wrote respectfully to the SSS.
The lawyer claimed he tried to arrange medical care for the IPOB leader, but the SSS did not allow it.
He attached a letter to the tweet. The lawyer signed the letter.
The letter, dated June 6, responded to a medical report of Mr. Kanu made by the SSS medical unit.
Mr Ejimakor wrote a letter introducing two doctors selected by the Kanu family to examine Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s medical records/report from the SSS medical unit.
Mr Ejimakor expressed frustration that the SSS refused to allow Onyendu (Kanu) to receive medical care from his chosen physicians.
Context
Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested in 2015 under former Nigerian President Buhari.
IPOB leader was granted bail in April 2017. He fled the country after the Nigerian military invaded his home in Afara-Ukwu, Abia State in September.
He was extradited from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021, four years after he fled Nigeria.
The Abuja Court of Appeal ruled that the IPOB leader was illegally brought to Nigeria, violating the extradition treaty and his human rights.
The government declined to release the IPOB leader, citing concerns about his availability for future court proceedings and potential security risks in the South-east.
The government appealed the court ruling and obtained a stay order from the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has not ruled on the government’s appeal yet.
