Osimhen says he will always treasure Olusosun and its people. Victor Osimhen of Napoli says he will always remember Olusosun and its people when Nigeria’s rave of the moment paid a visit to the hamlet where he grew up.

On Thursday, when Osimhen visited the place where he was born in a show titled “Back to roots,” it seemed like a carnival in Olusosun, a neighborhood near Ojota in Lagos State.

Remember that after Osimhen guided Napoli to their first Serie A triumph in 33 years, the neighborhood honored him by posting a celebratory inscription at the area’s main entrance.

The 24-year-old decided to repay their kindness by making a visit to Olusosun on Thursday, and after the occasion, he poured praise on the residents in the neighborhood.

“Returning to Olusosun, where my football dream and journey began, gives me goosebumps.” “I am humbled and grateful for the roots that have shaped my dreams,” tweeted Osimhen.

“This is me thanking them once more for their love and support, and I will always cherish Olusosun and its people.” Thank you very much!”

Meanwhile, according to Sulaiman Folarin, widely known as Pooja, a photography journalist, Osimhen spent two days in his previous ‘hood’ and gave the locals gifts, particularly money.

“Victor Osimhen hosted the Osimhen Super Cup to discover talents and gave back to the community by paying school fees, hospital bills, and several financial supports for families,” Pooja wrote on Twitter.

The grass to grace story of the Napoli goal machine was written in the community, and it all began there. He had lived in the region with his late parents and five siblings in a one-room flat.

Despite his fortunes changing, the 24-year-old is deeply attached to the village and most of the inhabitants who remember his family’s troubles and low level of living from years ago.

The Eagles forward has been in the nation since arriving in camp for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sierra Leone, against whom he scored twice last Sunday to assist Nigeria secure qualification to the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.

Coming to Nigeria also means taking a few days off before activities resume at the beginning of July.

Osimhen, who finished as the top scorer in the Italian Serie A last season with 26 goals to help his club win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years, was greeted by a raucous mob that briefly prevented him from getting into his car as he drove away.

He also paid a visit to Olusosun Primary School in Oregun, where he used to play football with some of his local buddies before bursting into the spotlight.
