Gbenga Daniel
Gbenga Daniel stopped Ogun monthly pension. Former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has explained why he requested that his pensions and benefits as a former governor be discontinued.
He stated that the choice was made to avoid receiving double pay after returning to public service after a 12-year absence.
This was stated by the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.
He said, “I remember there was indeed a court judgement which SERAP got basically saying that people should not be entitled to double payment, especially if you now have another kind of public office. However, even before that, a human person should not be entitled to double remuneration.
“So, for me, as I said earlier, I was not in public service for about 12 years, and now that I am back in public service, let me just make sure that I tidy things up,” he said. “Someone just pointed out to me, and said why don’t I just remind the governor that I am not here and he should please stop the monthly pension that he was paying, and hopefully when I am out of the Senate we will check what the law says.”
To develop the value system, he recommended public officials to provide positive examples of a better society.
