Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
Two injured in Lagos accident. Ten passengers were killed and two others were injured in a multiple road collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday morning in the Otedola section near Berger.
PUNCH According to Metro, the accident involving three Mac trucks and a bus carrying passengers occurred on the freeway at 10 a.m.
The Lagos State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Babatunde Farinloye, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said emergency workers responded promptly to the accident.
Farinloye said, “It’s a multiple accident involving four vehicles. They include three Mac trucks and a Mazda bus. Twelve people were involved and two persons were injured. It’s a serious accident but not fatal.
“Our unit at Ojota performed the rescue in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.” The injured people were brought to the hospital for treatment.”
The incident, according to the FRSC commander, was caused by a mechanical failure in one of the trucks.
“One of the vehicles’ brakes failed.” That’s what caused the many crashes. “There would be a loss of control if the brakes failed,” Farinloye explained.
PUNCH According to Metro, the incident caused road jam for some time, as our correspondent saw slow movement on the road going out of Lagos to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Parts of two lorries were also extensively destroyed at the scene.
LASTMA responded on Twitter via @followlastma, advising travelers to take alternate routes while the vehicles are being evacuated from the road.
“The traffic is backing up all the way back to Alausa.” In the interim, please take alternate routes if traveling outside of Lagos,” the traffic said.
