Senate President Godswill Akpabio
Senate warms up for ministerial screening. The Senate is anticipated to receive the President’s list of ministerial nominations this week, with five days remaining in the 60-day constitutional window.
Tope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Publicity, stated in a Sunday interview with The PUNCH,
This week, Ministers’ List will be published. Let’s wait for the release of the names.
The 1999 Constitution stipulates that the President and governors must submit the names of persons nominated as ministers or commissioners within 60 days of taking the oath of office for confirmation by the Senate or the respective state Houses of Assembly.
Tinubu, who was sworn in as President on May 29, has to submit his ministerial list to the Senate before July 29 as mandated by law.
The silence over the ministerial list has generated concerns amongst Nigerians.
But speaking to The PUNCH in Abuja on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), said the upper chamber has enough time to screen the ministerial nominees within the stipulated time.
I have stated numerous times and for the nth time that there is still time to receive and screen the ministerial nominees, he continued. We are aware that Nigerians are eager to see the executive team that would give our economy new vitality and improve everyone’s quality of life. Without a doubt, we are protected by the constitution. The Senate will undoubtedly take the necessary action and won’t let Nigerians down.
The identities of the ministerial nominees would likely be revealed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during this week’s session, according to a previous report by Sunday PUNCH.
