Emefiele arrives in court for trial. Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s suspended governor, has arrived before the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), will be charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition on Tuesday (25 July), according to the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The State Security Service (SSS), which has been detaining Mr. Emefiele since June 10, filed the charges on Thursday, July 13, the same day that an Abuja High Court judge gave the organization a week to either file charges against him in court or free him.
The SSS had held Mr Emefiele for over a month without charges until the 13 July ruling.

July25th Around 9:20 am, the tainted CBN boss came at the courthouse for his accused gun possession trial.

 

He will go on trial for two charges of illegally owning the JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371 single-barrel shotgun.

According to The PUNCH, the Department of State Services charged the suspended CBN governor with two counts of illegal procession of firearms and ammunition on July 13, 2023.

Emefiele was charged by the DSS with illegally owning a single-barrelled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371).

He was accused by the service of illegally possessing 23 cartridges (live ammunition) without a permit in the second count. The offence is also said to be contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.
