CMDs, health workers suspended in Kano for stopping night duty. The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has replaced the Chief Medical Officers of three state-run healthcare facilities after health workers refused to work at night on July 30.
Imam Wali General Hospital, Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital are among those affected.
The hospital’s management board’s public relations officer, Samira Sulaiman, stated in a statement on Tuesday that the removal of the CMDs and suspension of the health workers had been approved by the Executive Secretary, Dr Mansur Nagoda.
According to the statement, the health personnel disregarded their responsibilities by failing to show up for night duty, putting patients in the care of students.
Nagoda warned that the board would not condone negligence, lateness, or absenteeism from duty by any medical personnel, adding that anyone found wanting would face sanctions by the civil service rules and regulations.
Nagoda urged other hospitals to tighten their belts, stating that all facilities would be strictly inspected in order to restore the state’s health sector to a standard level.
