Rescued man eventually dies from collapsed building. The PUNCH can reveal that a construction worker who was rescued by the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency when a building collapsed in Abuja on Saturday has died.

Nkechi Isa, FEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, verified the news to our correspondent in a Whatsapp message that stated, “yes, he died today.”

FEMA stated in an earlier statement that the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at a construction site in the Central Business District, next to Taj Bank.

The deceased was working on the first floor of the building as a laborer when the entire cast allegedly fell on him.

The victim was rescued and transferred to the National Hospital’s Trauma Centre in Abuja, according to the statement.

“The team from FEMA and the FCT Fire service were able to rescue the trapped man with the aid of extrication equipment and the construction company’s excavator.”

Meanwhile, FEMA’s Acting Director General, Mohammed Sabo, who was on the ground and oversaw rescue efforts, urged developers to always follow building codes.
