Actor Andre Braugher’s death was caused by lung cancer.
Andre Braugher, an actor who won two Emmys, passed away from lung cancer, according to his publicist, who confirmed the news. Braugher was diagnosed with the disease a few months ago.
Death came to the 61-year-old on Monday.
Famous roles for Braugher include Homicide: Life on the Street’s Detective Frank Pembleton and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Captain Ray Holt.
Both his 1998 performance in Homicide and his 2006 performance in the criminal thriller Thief were nominated for Emmys.
In addition to his Golden Globe nominations for Thief and ABC’s Gideon’s Crossing, Braugher garnered four Emmy nominations for his part in the eight-season sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
He was most recently seen in the biographical film She Said, which chronicles the lives of the reporters who uncovered the Harvey Weinstein scandal, alongside Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan.
His co-star Terry Crews from Brooklyn Nine-Nine paid tribute to Braugher’s “irreplaceable talent” earlier this week.
“I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared eight glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent,” Crews said on her account.
“You showed me what a life well lived looks like.”
Braugher, who was born in Chicago, left for New York to attend The Juilliard School of Drama after graduating from Stanford University.
As Braugher put it in 2014, he “stopped drinking alcohol and smoking years ago” when speaking to The New York Times Magazine.
The actor’s three boys and wife, Ami Brabson, whom he met on the set of Homicide, will carry on his legacy.
