Minister of foreign affairs says military coup may fill Africa

Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Minister of foreign affairs says military coup may fill Africa. Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has warned against labeling the unlawful change of government in West Africa as a regional issue.

Tuggar further stated that if not addressed, the coup might sweep the entire African continent, adding to the difficulties of terrorism and other cross-border criminalities.

The minister issued the warning in Oran, Algeria, at the 10th Annual High-level Seminar on the Promotion of Peace and Security in Africa: Assisting African Members of the UN Security Council in Preparing to Address Peace and Security Issues on the Continent.

Tuggar contended on Monday in a statement signed by his media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir, that “some might say West Africa must have a problem and that is why the crisis is happening.”

“West Africa was not to blame for Libya’s implosion, which resulted in the proliferation of arms.” It was also not to blame for the European Union’s Sahel strategy’s failure. It is not always to blame for climate change in the Sahel.

“We need to breathe life into Africa Union body of programs because terrorist groups and indeed other criminal gangs are edging ways in border areas, and West Africa has complex border areas and territorial issues that are difficult to man and manage,” the minister urged.

“The AU body of programmes would bring in development and infrastructure when we do not give in to this military takeover.”

“However, people might simply say there is something West Africa is doing wrong and try and accommodate the new military regimes, but that would be fatal for the whole of Africa because we want to get to the issue of fighting terrorism in the entire Africa, in North Africa and other parts.”

“It is easy to believe that the solution is to accommodate these new military regimes and work with them because they are dear to you,” he added.
