Massive illegal refinery uncovered in Rivers as military seizes Five million litres of stolen crude.
The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army revealed on Wednesday that it had discovered a vast illegal refinery camp in Rivers State, seizing five million litres of stolen crude oil stored in a reservoir. Major-General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, disclosed that the illicit refinery was located along the Mirinwanyi channel of the Imo River in the Komkom area of Oyigbo Local Government Area.
He emphasized that the scale of oil theft indicated the involvement of influential individuals behind these activities. Abdussalam stated that while many arrests had been made, the actual culprits orchestrating these operations were yet to be apprehended, and the military is diligently following leads to identify those responsible.
This discovery comes in the wake of another illegal refinery containing about three million litres of crude oil found in Odagwa, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State a week ago. The military remains committed to eradicating illegal refineries and connections within its jurisdiction.
