Ondo Amotekun apprehends 67 suspected kidnappers and robbers
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has made significant strides in combating crime by apprehending 67 individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
Working in collaboration with the police, army, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun operatives conducted operations resulting in the arrest of the suspects over the past two weeks.
Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, while addressing the press at the command headquarters in Akure on Monday, disclosed that many of the apprehended individuals were positively identified by their victims, confirming their participation in criminal activities.
“We have successfully apprehended a significant number of suspected criminals during operations conducted throughout Ondo state. Among the 67 individuals detained, many are suspected kidnappers who have been positively identified by their victims,” Adeleye stated.
He further elaborated, “Some of the suspects were found in possession of various weapons, while others were involved in offenses such as housebreaking, robbery, and murder.”
Highlighting the diverse nature of the suspects, Adeleye revealed that three individuals had previously escaped from prison custody in Benin, Edo State, while facing charges related to kidnapping and robbery.
“These individuals have affiliations with criminal groups operating in the USO/Emure/Owo axis, and their apprehension underscores our commitment to maintaining peace and security in Ondo State,” he added.
Adeleye emphasized the importance of community vigilance in combating crime and urged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to the security agencies.
In conclusion, he reiterated Amotekun’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the state’s socio-economic activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
