The Nigeria Police Force has once again expressed strong disapproval of jungle justice, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the country’s justice system. In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared on the force’s official account on Monday, the police cautioned against resorting to mob action and extrajudicial killings.

Highlighting the adverse effects of jungle justice on the administration of justice, the statement underscored the need to uphold the rule of law and reject vigilantism. Adejobi recounted a recent incident where a vandal, apprehended by police operatives in Lagos State, was handed over to a security guard who subsequently killed and set ablaze the suspect. The guard has since been arrested and will face charges for murder.

The statement condemned similar incidents across the country, noting their hindrance to effective investigation and prosecution. The Nigeria Police Force emphasized the criminal nature of jungle justice, emphasizing its violation of human rights and erosion of the fabric of civilized society.

Urging the public to shun mob actions and uphold fair legal processes, the police emphasized the importance of communities rejecting vigilantism and promoting the rule of law. Only through transparent legal proceedings can justice be served, ensuring equality and upholding democratic principles.
