Sisi set for Third term Swearing-In

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is poised to take the oath for a third consecutive term on Tuesday, as confirmed by government newspaper Al-Ahram. The ceremony will take place in the new administrative capital outside Cairo, marking the beginning of Sisi’s new mandate.

With over a decade in power, Sisi is set to reaffirm his leadership in the new parliament premises, symbolizing continuity in governance. Following his reelection with a significant majority, Sisi’s new term, mandated by the constitution, is expected to last for six years, positioning it as his final tenure.

As preparations for the swearing-in proceed, discussions about a potential cabinet reshuffle post-inauguration have emerged. MP Mustafa Bakri, closely associated with the ruling establishment, hinted at the likelihood of a government resignation to facilitate changes in the cabinet structure.

However, amidst the ceremonial proceedings, Egypt grapples with significant economic challenges, including inflation and foreign currency shortages. Recent financial inflows, including substantial investments from the United Arab Emirates and funding from the International Monetary Fund, offer temporary relief. Yet, doubts persist about sustainable economic recovery without fundamental structural reforms to reduce the dominance of the military and government in the economy.

While Sisi’s supporters anticipate economic revitalization, observers remain cautious about the efficacy of monetary injections without accompanying reforms.
